If you can pay this amount, the jail will release you from custody while you await your pending criminal charges. If you cannot afford the amount they tell you, there are options you can choose from, and here are some of them.
Ask a friend or relative for help
After the police place you in jail, they will allow you to make a phone call. If you have a friend or relative that has money to bail you out and is willing to do this, you could get out of jail right away if they come to the jail and pay your bail.
Stay put
Staying in jail is the easiest option you have at this point, and while this might be your last resort, it is an option that many people will choose primarily because they have no other options. If you choose this option, you will have to remain in the custody of the jail until the judge in the case orders differently. In other words, you will stay there until you accept a plea bargain that the judge approves or go through a trial.
If the end results of your case requires that you serve time in jail, all the time you have served up to this point will be credited to you, which will reduce the time you will have to spend in jail. For example, if you are convicted of the crime and sentenced to serve 180 days in jail, you would only have to serve 80 more if you have already served 100 days up to this point.

The other option you have is to call a company that specializes in bail bond services. This is probably the most commonly used option, as it offers a way out of jail without spending a large amount of money. Using this service requires paying a small fee upfront, and after doing this, you will be released from jail. It is important to know, though, that using these services will obligate you to follow the rules that the court sets up for you.
